As a firm which places Employee Relations (ER) at our heart, we are proud of the amazing team here at ESPHR. That is why our current employee Q&A seeks to share a little more about each one of our colleagues.
Up next, is Nina Robinson, director at ESP Law (who is also climbing Everest in 2021!).
1. What’s the one thing which marks ESPHR out as an employer of choice?
Potential – the willingness to evolve and adapt and not play it safe.
2. What would you say if you were to explain what ESPHR does to an alien?
We help businesses to manage and get the best out of people.
3. If you could give anyone an internal award, who would it be and what would it be for?
Charlotte Ashton – ‘Impressive First Impression Award’ for smashing it in her relatively short time as part of the legal team to date and making us feel like she has been with us for 10 years… in a good way!
4. What is your funniest memory of someone in the team?
I cannot say but is that cheating? Probably on a team building holiday to Marrakesh when Sarah’s suitcase was lost in transit and she had to clothe herself in local attire for the first night out. A kaftan and colourful pointy/traditional shoes were the order of the evening – and she took it very well!
5. What keeps the job interesting for you?
We can advise on the law – which is standard practice among firms – but ESP Law strives to take into account human emotions, attitudes, and reactions. That is what keeps it varied and interesting.
6. If you had not chosen this career path, what other profession would you be in?
I wanted to be a lawyer from the first time I remember someone asking what I wanted to do when I grew up. I have a yearning now for something creative, but I get that from doing arts and crafts with the kids! I love nutrition and cooking, so maybe a little café near the seaside serving healthy brunches where I could clock off for the day after the lunchtime rush!
7. Where do you see ESPHR in five years’ time?
Bigger and better than ever and still feeling like a family.
8. A little-known fact about you?
I’m climbing Mount Everest this year!
Disclaimer – not all at once. I’m doing the Everest challenge with the kids so recording the total elevation of each family walk we do in 2021 to add to our Everest chart. We need to get to 29,029 ft and at the time of writing this we are at close to 26,000 ft.
9. If we went into lockdown for another time, who would you like to be locked down with and why?
My husband, kids, and the dog – of course.
10. Which five celebrities (dead or alive) would you invite to a dinner party?
Piers Morgan for the controversy – especially now he might have some time off, Bill Bryson for the stories and knowledge about loads of random things, Richard Osman for the interesting conversation and wit, Davina McCall because I bet she is a good listener, and finally Mrs Hinch to clean up afterwards.
