Welcome news to small employers.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, has announced in the Spring Budget that small companies with less than 250 employees will receive a refund from the Government of any SSP paid to employees who are self-isolating for up to 14 days as a result of COVID-19. Statutory sick pay is currently paid at £94.25 per week.
At present, there is no time limit on how long this refund will be available for, but we presume it will apply for as long as the virus remains an active infectious disease. It applies to any employee who has been informed by 111 to self-isolate or has taken the decision based on government advice at the time.
