This afternoon the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, has announced an extension to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS). The scheme will be extended by four months until the end of October 2020 and will be adjusted at key points to provide flexibility in bringing people back to work. The Chancellor has confirmed that the scheme will continue for all sectors and regions.
Full details of the extended scheme are expected to be published by the end of May 2020, however it is understood that the CJRS in its current form will remain in place until the end of July 2020.
From August 2020, the Chancellor has confirmed that businesses will be expected to start “sharing” the cost of the scheme and that employers will be able to bring employees back to work on a part-time basis.
