As one of the biggest Christian uniformed youth organisations in the UK and Republic of Ireland, The Boys’ Brigade is committed to seeing lives enriched by supporting children and young people. The Challenge

The Boys’ Brigade has a foothold across the UK and Republic Ireland, and as the charity continued to develop its work, its previous online-only HR supplier no longer fit the brief.

Given the unique structure of The Boys’ Brigade, the firm quickly realised that a service which offered telephone advice alongside a pre-prepared suite of documents was what was needed. Finding a provider which offered dedicated contact points – including assigned ‘lead and buddy’ lawyers – was key to supporting the not-for-profit as it continued to flourish.

The Solution

ESP was appointed to provide consistent, high-quality specialist employment law advice, as well as guidance when dealing with the unexpected, too.

Since the two firms began working together in 2012, ESP has undertaken a review of the staff handbook and contract, as well as provided sensitive expertise regarding the long-term sickness of an employee and assistance with a redundancy programme. Furthermore, the team provided direction for other, legal-related, matters such as GDPR and commercial contracts.

Knowing that ESP’s legal team is available at the end of the phone has empowered The Boys’ Brigade’s close-knit team to tackle difficult workplace issues.
