The government has announced that the National Minimum Wage (NMW) will increase to £9.50 an hour from April 2022 for employees aged 23 or over. Younger workers will also get an increase with people aged 21-22 set to receive £9.18 per hour, those aged 18-20 will get £6.83 per hour, and earnings for under 18s, along with those on the apprentice rate, will increase to £4.81 per hour.
Employers should plan ahead now to factor in these increased costs, particularly in the current climate which has seen a shortage of workers — subsequently leading to an increase in wages in a bid to bolster demand — across several industries.
