Rafia Ahmad

As a firm which places Employee Relations (ER) at our heart, we are proud of the amazing team here at ESPHR. That is why we’ve revamped our employee Q&A – in a bid to find out a little more about each one of our colleagues.

Up first, is Rafia Ahmad, our senior solicitor (and would-be UN Secretary General).

What is the one thing which marks ESPHR out as an employer of choice?

The lovely team it has built over the years. The camaraderie amongst the lawyers, in particular, is truly great.

What would you say if you were to explain what ESPHR does to an alien?

Employers have problems in the employment law arena. We provide solutions.

If you could give anyone an internal award, who would it be and what would it be for?

Sam Davies – head of operations. For keeping everything organised and running smoothly.

What is your funniest memory of someone in the team?

It’s far too hilarious – and embarrassing – to make it into the public domain. Let’s just say it involved a Christmas night out to remember, and leave it at that!

What keeps the job interesting for you?

I think the job is what it is and would be the same wherever I worked. However, it is the people around me who keep me interested and the customers we speak to daily. No working week is the same and things are never boring.

If you hadn’t chosen the career you are in, what other profession would you be in?

Well, now, that is a good question. I have several: interior decorator, artist, fashion designer, fashion buyer, magazine editor, UN Secretary General.

A little-known fact about you?

I used to take flying lessons. In a Cessna-250, if you’re asking.

If we went into lockdown for a third time, who would you like to be locked down with and why?

In addition to my husband and daughter, I would have to say, my mum and dad. I miss them terribly!

Assuming you are in Tier One, which five celebrities (dead or alive) would you invite to a dinner party?

  1. Alan Rickman – major crush and for his droll quips.
  2. Michelle Obama – kind of in awe of her and her achievements in philanthropy.
  3. Barack Obama – well, I mean, he’s the first American black President, need I say more? (I think Michelle would like him to attend too).
  4. Peter Kay – comedy genius.
  5. Adele – for some tunes (and weight loss tips).
