As a firm which places Employee Relations (ER) at our heart, we are proud of the amazing team here at ESPHR. That is why our current employee Q&A seeks to share a little more about each one of our colleagues.

Up next, is Charlotte Ashton, one of our senior solicitors (and the Dr Dolittle of spiders).

What’s the one thing which marks ESPHR out as an employer of choice?

The team spirit across the whole business – you cannot beat it.

What would you say if you were to explain what ESPHR does to an alien?

I would ask the alien what their plans were and share an example of ESPHR solving the inter-alien problems which would allow Martians to carry on with their main objective. Although if those goals involved taking over Earth, I would probably say we deliver milk and ask to be allowed to go on my way!

If you could give anyone an internal award, who would it be and what would it be for?

Russell Guest – for his never-ending interest and enthusiasm in Formula 1.

What is your funniest memory of someone in the team?

Having joined during 2020 I have not had much time to see the team ‘in the wild’ but I am looking forward to making some good memories when we have the opportunity.

What keeps the job interesting for you?

The customers or, more specifically, the employees! Every time you think you have heard the oddest thing to happen in a workplace, a more ‘off the wall’ issue comes up.

If you had not chosen this career, what other profession would you be in?

I would have quite liked to be a forensic psychologist.

Where do you see ESPHR in five years’ time?

A firm with an increasingly enviable list of customers and fantastic software backing up the excellent advice. But on a much bigger scale!

A little-known fact about you?

I used to be terrified of spiders of any size to the extent I would get neighbours to come and take them out of the house. I realised I needed not to pass my fear onto my children, so I spent a long time researching them and eventually desensitised myself. Now I give them names, have a chat with them, and carefully remove them from my house.

If we went into lockdown once more, who would you like to be locked down with and why?

Assuming it would be me and my children in the house, I’d have to add in a cleaner, chef, and nanny – for obvious reasons.

Which five celebrities (dead or alive) would you invite to a dinner party?

Victoria Coren Mitchell for interesting conversation and to test out some quiz questions, Sir Ranulph Fiennes for explorer stories, Caroline Kepnes to hear about future storylines in her books, and Flight of the Conchords to sing some songs about the evening.
