My role at ESP Law is two-fold. I am a senior solicitor, responsible for assisting customers with a broad spectrum of employment issues, as well as a litigator dealing with a range of tribunal matters.
I started my career in a trade union firm, representing members and claimants, but made the switch to advising businesses in 2010. Prior to joining ESP Law, I worked as an in-house employment lawyer for Community Integrated Care, a national care charity based in Widnes.
Without a doubt it is building relationships with customers and working in tandem to find a solution.
Being part of a unit is one of the best parts of the job, probably something which has been influenced by my years of playing team sport – ‘I am not an island’ as the saying goes! Finding a solution to an issue alongside a customer is so rewarding.
A wealth of experience and support delivered via a flexible model. As one of the firm’s newest recruits, seeing the collective level of skill and knowledge is inspiring – particularly in the way it is offered to our customers.
I love to see how things are made and so I am particularly intrigued by the manufacturing sector – my time in factories at the start of my career has made quite an impression on me! That being said, I am actually a big kid at heart and so if Disney came knocking – I would be thrilled!
Innovative – both as a legal services provider and an employer.
That I am approachable and pragmatic. Although, that’s technically two things!
To continue to settle into my new role and build relationships with customers and the team.
A little bit of calm in relation to changes to employment law. We have just lived through an unprecedented time when the legal landscape was changing by the day. A bit of breathing space for employers would be a welcome break.
This is a tricky question in light of recent times! However, in a non-COVID-19 world I love cycling with my family and socialising with friends. A little-known fact about me is that I played the Euphonium in a successful brass band many moons ago and have recently taken this up again. Although, I certainly won’t be performing any solos any time soon!
It’s our mission to advise and develop the employment law capability of HR professionals wherever we can, helping HR teams make a real commercial difference to their organisations. That way, you spend less time solving operational issues and more time actioning projects that drive far-reaching change in your company.
